We interviewed Gabriela as we wanted to know more about her inspiring journey and what influences her morning routine.

What is your morning routine?

First, I stretch in my bed, then I do my morning journal, writing 3 things I'm grateful for plus 3 positive affirmations and reading them in my mind or out loud. Followed by a 5-minute meditation where I raise my energy through my chakras. Then I make my bed in a way that doesn't trap any dust mites inside (fold my duvet tightly at the bottom of the bed and put my pillow on top so the mattress can breathe), then I wash my face and teeth and apply a natural moisturiser (Hyaluronic acid + B5). Finally, I feed my cat, Angel, I drink a cup of hot water (filtered, then boiled and cooled a bit) and I have my breakfast.

Has this always been your routine? How has your routine changed over time?

I have done the morning journal for the past 5-6 years, the meditation for the past 3 years and the rest for longer.

What is a positive daily habit you try to incorporate into your lifestyle?

Going to bed before 10pm, which I have done most of the past 5-6 years and I try to be more strict with it.

What particular food/drink do you have every morning and why?

I drink a cup of hot water (filtered, then boiled and cooled a bit), because the filtration cleans tap water from chlorine and other particles and boiling it gets rid of any microorganisms living in it. It has a lot of health benefits: it soothes a sore throat caused by mucus build up, it hydrates better than cold water, maintains normal bowel function, improves blood flow/circulation,  helps maintain body temperature, improves central nervous system functions, helps fight inflammation, helps expel toxins out the body through sweating, and improves sinus health.

How do you structure/plan your day?

I have a notebook in which I write my weekly goals and then I split them by days and add to my phone notes so that I can see my daily to-do everywhere I go and tick them off and I also read them the night before.

What advice would you give to others trying to change their morning routines?

Start with small changes and one at a time. Otherwise, it may be overwhelming and stressful. Try different things and see what works for you. Make it a lifestyle rather than doing things because ‘you have to’.

Find a routine that suits you as a person, as everyone is different. Don't follow some millionaire's routine hoping to be as successful as them. It doesn't matter what your routine is, as long as you have one that helps you with positivity, discipline, work ethic and productivity, reduces stress and improves your mental health.

How soon do you check your phone in the morning?

After I have my breakfast, which is after my whole morning routine. Otherwise, it's too distracting.

What is your most gifted book/the read that has greatly influenced your life?

"The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne which I read in 2007 when I was 17 years old. It has changed my whole outlook on life from being depressed and negative thinker to a positive and happy person. Happiness isn't somewhere in the future when something/someone happens in your life, it's a state of mind and it's in the present.
